One of the biggest aspects of green living is that thing then no living being can live without… water. The human population all around the world is currently using about a fourth of all the water in the world, which most use in an unsustainable way. Which makes it very important to find a more efficient way to use our available water. But in sustainable living that is no problem, given that in sustainable living the way that water is used through these methods makes for it to last longer. These methods include indoor and outdoor savings of water. So read closely so that you can also spread water saving awareness.

More than a 10 percent of all the freshwater that is withdrawn is used by Housing and commercial buildings in the US. this can be reduced by only a couple of alterations in the regular behavior of use regarding water. And given that just one person in an average family can spend about 70 gallons of water all by themselves in a day these changes are necessary.

Simple changes that can be done.
Toilets; Just think about how much water you can use in a day. Just one toilet flush spends more water than all an average person can use in about a day. So what are some things that we can do to fix this? Well, there are two main solutions, these are to improve the toilet or to get a better one. To improve the toilet, one thing that can be done is to put weighted plastic water bottles on the toilet tank. There also are very cheap float boosters or inexpensive tank banks. A tank bank is a plastic bag to be filled with water and hung in the toilet tank, and a float booster attaches to the lower part of pre-1986 three-and-a-half-gallon capacity toilets. What these floaters do is let the toilet work normally but it reduces its water levels, saving a couple of gallons on every flush made. Another thing that is incredibly bad for this is leaks. A regular person wouldn’t be able to identify the leaks just by looking at them but these can cause about a hundred of gallons in loss every month. One way to detect this is to put food dye on the toilet and see if the water stays the same color. If a leak is discovered you can just be adjusted with a toilet flapper, which allows self-adjustment of the amount of water per flush.

Showers; an 18 percent of all the water spent indoors is attributed to showers. They spent about 6-8 gallons per minute in an average shower. One way change this is to switch your shower head to a low flow, high-performance shower. These shower heads use only 1.0-1.5 gallons per minute or less. This would make a great difference in the water spend. Another very simple thing that can be done is just taking shorter showers, this can also reduce the amount of water spent. And you don’t have to do it always just take a couple of short showers a week and you’ll be making a difference.

Washing machines; washing machines take about 23 percent of the water usage indoors, in contrast to other brands of washing machines American washing machines haven’t done much to prevent water loss. So this is a major thing that should change. One thing that you could do is wash clothes manually and although it might be tedious to some you’ll be saving lots of water. Another thing you could do is switch to a Horizontal-Axis machine, which in term saves more water than other washing machines.

Quick tips for water saving.

Here is just a quick list of some advice for water saving. But don’t be confused, doing the following things would make just a big a difference than buying a new washing machine or toilet.

1. Turn off the tap every time that you wash your teeth, as this can save about 6 liters of water per every minute that it’s on.

2. Fill a jug with tap water, this will help you, later on, every time you need cold tap water and you won’t have to wait for the water to freeze up.

3. Install a water butt. These artifacts can collect about 5,000 thousand liters of water a year, water that you can use to spray your garden wash and wash your car. You cannot lose with one of these.
